I created a set of 2 bedside tables to match a teak bedframe.
In addition to teak, I wanted to incorporate a contrasting colour (maple) using a series of mortar and tenon joints. This joint, when using contrasting colours, creates a seamless, visual contrast and is also very strong.

I finalized the design using CAD software and created drawings to help aid during assembly.
The desired width of the table was larger than the planer that I owned, so I created the table in halves which were glued together and sanded. The mortises (holes) were cut using a scroll saw) and were sanded until the tenons fit tightly.
Finally, all surfaces were sanded smooth and treated with a single layer of tung oil.
